Vision - To connect Hamilton County, Indiana residents to non-judgmental, trained peer-to-peer safe crisis de-escalation spaces.

C.H.A.T.S. does not replace professional mental health counseling, crisis counseling, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, or any other professional clinical intervention.

Goal/Outcome

Hamilton County CHATS through A Healthier Hamilton County: Systems of Care creates spaces for safe crisis de-escalation with trained, non-judgmental listeners and supports.  CHATS is a reflection of what is already built in our county and provides room for exploring difficult situations and resources.

About C.H.A.T.S.

Connecting Hamilton County And Tackling Stigma

We know that most crisis calls occur between 5 and 11pm. We also know that drug overdoses in our county occur between midnight at 3am.  Finally, we know that peer intervention is successful.

Hamilton County wants to provide peer-to-peer crisis de-escalation spaces for those crises that are not to the level of requiring police or hospital involvement but do create strain and stress on the individual's life.

Thanks to partnership from  Indiana 211, the Hamilton County Health Department, and Be Well Indiana as well as generous funding from IU Health and the United Way of Central Indiana, this idea can become reality.
