Intersections: Racism, Ableism, & Sexual Violence Prevention

July 18, 2023, 12-1:30 p.m. EST

Ableism works alongside racism to enable discrimination, and social prejudice against people with disabilities based on unchangeable identities, like disability, race, or ethnicity. Both racism and ableism are social constructs and forms of oppression. These forms of power over to control create the norm that people with different abilities, races, and ethnicities are subhuman. This normative practice results in unequal and inequitable rights and opportunities in systems and structures.
